Getting Started!

I decided to start this blog to share our bee experiences with anyone who is interested, as well as use it as a tool to sell our honey as it is harvested.

How did we become beekeepers? 3 words: "Beekeeping for Dummies"....sounds silly but that was a big jumpstart. My husband Rob had a friend at work that was talking about his beehives, and Rob was curious. We went to his house to take a look at this new interest and I was impressed how calm the bees were, as well as how calm the children were around them so close. Rob thought it would be interesting.

 But Rob is a busy guy working 6 days a week, 10-12 hr days but he started reading some online material and he decided it would be too difficult for him and got discouraged. Then Christmas time came and I was really trying to think of another gift for him. I remembered that "Beekeeping for Dummies" was on the started list for beekeeping, so I got it for him. He read it about 3 times and got really excited about it's possibilities!

He got the supplies at the local bee store in SLC and got everything ready. Our bees were on order and lucky me, I got to pick up a box full of 10,000 bees with 4 kids under age 7 tagging along. He owed me big time:) At that time I was supportive of his hobby, but still unsure about our little stinger friends...Maybe another post I will put some pictures on of our first day and the "do's" and "don'ts" :)
